夜明け前、瀬戸内の海は音もなく眠りについていました。
やがて東の空が淡く染まり、静かな海に、ゆっくりと朝の気配が満ちていきます。
この季節だけ、海に浮かぶ二つの小さな島のあいだから、朝日が姿を現します。
夜明け前から太陽が昇るまで、その光景を1分25秒のタイムラプスで編集しました。
ここは、香川県の小豆島。夕景の美しさで知られる島ですが、静かに佇む花寿波島から
望む朝日は、知る人ぞ知る絶景です。
花寿波島（はなすわじま）は、「波の上に浮かぶ美しい島」という意味を持つといわれています。
この日は波もなく、瀬戸内海らしいツルツルの水面に島影が浮かんでいました。
太陽が昇ると、四国の山々の稜線が光に照らされ、その陰影がくっきりと現れます。
この風景は、今も昔も変わりません。
きっと先人たちもまた、花寿波島のあいだから昇る太陽に手を合わせ、一日の始まりを祈ったことでしょう。
ここに美しき日本があります。

Before dawn,
the Seto Inland Sea lay in silence, fast asleep.
Gradually, the eastern sky began to soften with color,
and the quiet sea slowly filled with the presence of morning.
Only during this season,
the sun rises between two small islands floating upon the sea.
From before sunrise until the moment the sun appears,
this scene was captured and edited into a 1-minute-25-second time-lapse.
This is Shodoshima, in Kagawa Prefecture.
The island is well known for its beautiful sunsets,
but the sunrise seen from the quietly resting Hanasuwa Island
is a breathtaking view known only to those who seek it.
Hanasuwa Island (pronounced Hanasuwajima) is said to mean
“a beautiful island floating upon the waves.”
On this morning, the sea was completely calm,
and the islands seemed to float upon the smooth, glass-like surface
so characteristic of the Seto Inland Sea.
As the sun rises,
the ridgelines of the mountains of Shikoku emerge in light,
their shadows becoming sharply defined.
This landscape has remained unchanged,
both now and in ages past.
Surely, those who came before us also clasped their hands in prayer,
gazing at the sun rising between the islands,
welcoming the beginning of a new day.
Here lies the beauty of Japan.
