ここは、京都府京丹後市丹後町・間人（たいざ）。
高級ブランドとして名高い「間人ガニ」が水揚げされる港の町です。
「間人（たいざ）」という難読地名には、古代の物語が残されています。
聖徳太子の母・間人（はしうど）皇后が、大和政権の争乱を避けてこの地に身を寄せた際、手厚く迎えた村人たちへの感謝として、自らの名「間人」を贈ったと伝えられています。
しかし、あまりに畏れ多いとして、皇后の“退座”にちなみ「たいざ」と読むようになったといわれています。
その間人の竹野川河口にそびえるのが「立岩」。
周囲約1km、高さ約20m。
地下から上昇したマグマが冷え固まり、柱状節理を成した巨大な岩体です。
日本海を背にそそり立つ姿は、まさに圧巻。
この日は、晩夏の穏やかな日本海。
太陽はまるで線香花火の火玉のように、水平線へと静かに落ちていきました。
遥か彼方から「ジュッ」と音が聞こえてきそうなほど、静かな夕暮れ。
茜色に染まる雲は、どこか柔らかく、ソフトクリームのよう。
凪いだ海と優しい光に包まれながら、
はしうど皇后と聖徳太子が願ったであろう“平和”の想いが、
この風景にそっと重なっているように感じられました。
ここに美しき日本があります。

This is Taiza, Tango Town, Kyotango City, Kyoto Prefecture.
A small fishing port known as the landing place of the prestigious brand crab, “Taiza-gani.”
The difficult reading “Taiza” carries an ancient story.
It is said that Hashiudo Empress, the mother of Prince Shotoku, once sought refuge here during political turmoil in the Yamato court. In gratitude for the villagers’ warm hospitality, she bestowed her own name, “Hashiudo” (written as 間人), upon this land.
However, out of reverence for the Empress, the villagers chose to read the characters as “Taiza,” derived from the word meaning her honorable departure.
Rising at the mouth of the Takenogawa River stands Tateiwa (Standing Rock).
Approximately 1 kilometer in circumference and 20 meters high,
this massive rock formation was created when magma rose from underground and solidified, forming beautiful columnar joints.
Its towering figure against the Sea of Japan is truly breathtaking.
On this day, the late-summer Sea of Japan was calm and gentle.
The sun sank quietly toward the horizon, like the glowing ember of a sparkler touching the water.
In the stillness, one could almost imagine hearing a distant “sizzle” from far beyond.
The clouds, tinted crimson, were soft—almost like swirls of ice cream.
Wrapped in the gentle colors of a tranquil sea,
it felt as though the peaceful wishes of Empress Hashiudo and Prince Shotoku were quietly reflected in this landscape.
Here lies the beauty of Japan.
