ここは福島県・裏磐梯に広がる「五色沼湖沼群」。
毘沙門沼、赤沼、みどろ沼、弁天沼、るり沼、青沼、柳沼など、大小さまざまな湖沼の総称で、その名の通り、多彩な色を見せてくれる場所です。
五色沼の魅力は、天候や季節、光の角度、水中に含まれる火山性物質によって、エメラルドグリーン、コバルトブルー、ターコイズブルーなど、まるで絵の具を溶かしたような色に変化すること。沼の色ひとつひとつが、この土地の成り立ちや歴史を語っているようにも感じます。
探勝路はよく整備され、ゆっくり歩きながら自然の彩りを楽しむことができます。この日は午前中いっぱいかけて散策しました。2025年は全国的に熊の目撃情報が多く、この周辺にも注意喚起の看板が立っていました。メディアでは恐怖を煽るような取り上げ方も見られますが、背景には、熊や鹿、猪の個体数の増加や、人間の過疎化による境界線の変化など、より複雑な事情があります。
とはいえ、自然の中を歩き、野生動物に敬意を払いながら向き合う時間は本当に心地よいものです。
とくに、この五色沼の散策は、色彩の移ろいと静かな森の空気が相まって、とても楽しいひとときでした。
Here in Fukushima’s Urabandai region lies the Goshikinuma Lakes, a cluster of ponds such as Bishamonnuma, Akanuma, Midoronuma, Bentennuma, Rurinuma, Aonuma, and Yanaginuma. As the name “Goshikinuma” suggests, these waters display an astonishing range of colors.
What makes Goshikinuma so captivating is the way its hues shift—emerald green, cobalt blue, turquoise, and more—depending on the weather, the season, the angle of light, and the volcanic minerals dissolved in the water. Each shade seems to whisper a fragment of the land’s history and geological story.
The walking trail is well maintained, allowing visitors to enjoy the scenery at a relaxed pace. I spent the entire morning exploring the area. In 2025, bear sightings have increased nationwide, and even here there were many signs urging caution. While the media often amplifies fear, the situation is more complex, involving rising populations of bears, deer, and boar, as well as depopulation in rural areas that shifts the boundaries between wildlife and human settlements.
Even so, walking through nature while respecting the presence of wild animals is deeply rewarding.
The stroll through Goshikinuma—filled with shifting colors and the quiet breath of the forest—was especially memorable and peaceful.
