ここは、島根県出雲を流れる斐伊川。
夜明け前の斐伊川は、まだ薄い靄をまとい、静かに流れています。
東の空が焼け、橙色の光が川面に降りはじめると、その流れは、まるで古代から続く物語をそっと語りかけるようです。
この川は、中国山地の深い森を源とし、岩を削り、土を運び、幾千年という時をかけて海を押し戻し、平野をつくりあげました。
その堆積が広がり、やがて肥沃な出雲平野となり、人々は田を耕し、稲を育て、神々へと感謝を捧げてきました。
神話では、スサノヲノミコトが八岐大蛇を退治した後、この地で人々に稲作を教えたといいます。それ以来、斐伊川は稲の命を運び、人々の暮らしを守る川となりました。
いま、夜明けの光を浴びるその流れを見ていると、ただの水のきらめきではなく、大地を形づくり、人の営みを育んできた悠久の時が、そこに脈打っているのを感じます。
まさに、人生観が揺らぐほどの美しさです。
これが神話の国・出雲の夜明けです。
Before dawn, the Hii River drifts beneath a veil of mist, flowing in quiet silence.
As the eastern sky slowly loosens into gold,
its waters seem to whisper stories carried across the ages.
Born deep in the forests of the Chūgoku Mountains,
the river carved through stone, carried the earth,
and over thousands of years pushed back the sea,
laying down the soil that became the Izumo Plain.
On this fertile ground, people tilled their fields,
raised their rice, and offered thanks to the gods.
Legend tells that, after slaying the eight-headed serpent Yamata-no-Orochi,
the god Susanoo-no-Mikoto taught the people here how to cultivate rice.
Since then, the Hii River has been the lifeblood of the harvest,
nurturing both the land and the lives along its banks.
Now, as its waters catch the first light of morning,
they shine with more than the glimmer of the sun—
they carry the pulse of time itself,
of a river that has shaped the earth and sustained human life.
A beauty so profound it shifts the course of one’s heart—
this is the dawn of Izumo, the Land of Myth.
