静岡県、朝霧高原の裾野に広がる田貫湖。
この場所は、富士山を真東に望むことができる。
だから、まだ夜の名残が空に残る頃から、多くの人が湖畔にカメラを構えてその瞬間を待つ。富士山と朝日や「ダイヤモンド富士」と呼ばれる奇跡のような時間を。
やがて、光がゆっくりと湖面に降りてくると、今度は釣り人たちが静かに姿を現す。
ヘラブナ釣りをする人たちは、太陽が昇ってから、まるで湖と相談するように釣り座を決めていく。
その日、ぼくは別の場所で撮影を終え、少しだけ眠ろうと田貫湖に立ち寄った。
ところが、湖畔へと降りてみると、ボート桟橋にひとりの釣り人がいた。
目の前には、梅雨空にくっきりと浮かぶ富士山。
その姿は、まるでこの地に根を下ろした神のようだった。
でも、釣り人はただ静かに、浮きの揺れだけを見つめていた。
そこに富士山があることすら、忘れてしまったかのように。
あるいは、すでに毎日の風景として、その存在と深く折り合っているのかもしれない。
なんでもない光景なのに、どうしてだろう。
心にすっと入ってきて、ふと時間が止まったような気がした。
昼寝をしようと思っていたことも忘れて、ぼくはカメラを車から下ろしていた。
Lake Tanuki-ko lies at the foot of Asagiri Plateau in Shizuoka Prefecture.
From here, you can face Mt. Fuji directly to the east.
That’s why, even before the night fully lifts, many people gather along the lakeshore with their cameras, waiting for that fleeting moment—the sunrise, or what is known as the “Diamond Fuji,” when the sun aligns perfectly with the summit.
As light slowly descends onto the water’s surface, anglers begin to appear one by one.
Those who come to fish for herabuna carp seem to quietly consult with the lake before choosing their spot, only after the sun has risen.
That day, I had just finished shooting at another location and stopped by the lake, hoping to take a short nap.
But when I walked down to the shore, I saw a lone fisherman on the boat pier.
Before him stood Mt. Fuji, its silhouette clear and still beneath the cloudy sky of the rainy season—like a silent deity rooted in this land.
And yet, the fisherman simply gazed at his bobber, watching its gentle motion on the water.
It was as if he had forgotten Mt. Fuji was even there.
Or perhaps, it had already become such a familiar part of his everyday life that he no longer needed to look.
It was an ordinary scene. And yet, I don’t know why—it settled into my heart.
Time seemed to pause for a moment.
I forgot all about my nap, reached into the car, and took out my camera.
