ここは熊本県天草市にある崎津集落。
「長崎と天草地方の潜伏キリシタン関連遺産」の構成資産のひとつとして世界遺産に登録され、ゴシック様式の﨑津教会を中心に、小さな漁村の暮らしが今も静かに息づいています。
羊角湾に面した海岸一帯は「拝瀬（はいせ）・鳴瀬（なるせ）」と呼ばれ、海へ沈む美しい夕日を眺めることができる場所として知られています。
また、1805年（文化2年）に起きた潜伏キリシタン発覚事件の際には、この「拝瀬」で役人による取り調べが行われ、信徒たちはオメダイなどの差し出しを命じられたと伝えられています。
この日も夕陽は美しく、空には印象的な光芒が広がっていました。もし水平線近くに横たわる雲がなければ、太陽は岩の間へと静かに沈んでいったのでしょう。
けれど、その場に立っていると、なぜか胸の奥が静かに締めつけられるような、後頭部がじんわりと熱くなるような感覚がありました。
それは、この地に刻まれた潜伏キリシタンたちの歴史を知っていたからかもしれません。
彼らもまた、この海に沈む夕日を見つめ、同じ風を感じていたのではないか。
そんな思いが、いつの間にか心の中に浮かんでいました。
映像の最後に登場するのは、クリスマスのイルミネーションに彩られた﨑津教会です。
今も昔も、この小さな漁村を見つめ続けてきた眼差しが、静かにそこにあるように感じました。
ここに美しき日本があります。

This is Sakitsu Village in Amakusa, Kumamoto Prefecture.
Registered as one of the components of the Hidden Christian Sites in the Nagasaki Region, a UNESCO World Heritage site, Sakitsu is a small fishing village where daily life still quietly continues around the Gothic-style Sakitsu Church.
The coastal area facing Yōkaku Bay is known as Haise and Naruse, a place famous for its beautiful sunsets over the sea.
It is also said that during the 1805 persecution of the hidden Christians, officials gathered the believers here at Haise, where they were questioned and ordered to surrender their religious objects, including medals of faith.
On this evening, the sunset was once again beautiful, and striking rays of light spread across the sky. Had there been no clouds lying along the horizon, the sun would likely have set perfectly between the rocks.
And yet, standing there, I felt a strange sensation — as if my chest were quietly tightening, as if warmth were slowly rising at the back of my head.
Perhaps it was because I knew the history of the hidden Christians that remains deeply engraved in this place.
They too may have watched the sun sink into the sea.
They too may have felt the same wind.
Before I realized it, such thoughts had quietly appeared within me.
At the end of this film, Sakitsu Church appears illuminated with Christmas lights.
Past and present, I felt that the same gentle gaze that has watched over this small fishing village still remains here today.
