奄美大島には「神様が最初に立ち寄る岩」があります。
それが、海にぽつんと立つ「立神岩」です。
奄美大島の周囲には、この「立神（たちがみ）」と呼ばれる巨岩や小島が点在しています。
多くは集落の沖合に、ぽつんと鎮座するように立ち上がり、
まるで天を突き刺す塔のようにも、仏塔の水煙のようにも見える不思議な姿。
奄美では古くから、神様が最初に立ち寄る場所とも言われ、信仰の対象となってきました。
ここ、赤木名から望む笠利湾にも、
鋭い三角形の小島「笠利湾の立神岩」が静かに佇んでいます。
夕暮れになると、黒糖焼酎のグラスを片手に、
いつもこの海を眺めているおじぃがいます。
遠い何かを見つめているような、
海の向こうの誰かと語り合っているような、そんな静かな時間。
私も何度かこの場所で夕景を眺めているうちに、
いつしかこの立神岩を強く意識するようになりました。
奄美大島の周囲には、こうした立神岩が十数か所あり、
まるで島をぐるりと囲む守り神のようにも感じられます。
この日も、立神岩の上空を雲と風が流れ、
夕陽が海と空を照らしていました。
どこか神秘的で、奄美らしい静かな夕景でした。
ここに美しき日本があります。

On Amami Oshima, there are mysterious rocks believed to be the places where the gods first set foot.They are called “Tachigami Rocks.”
These towering rocks and small islets stand quietly offshore near local villages,
rising from the sea as if piercing the sky.
Their shapes sometimes resemble the finial of a Buddhist pagoda, giving them a sacred and mysterious presence.
From Akakina, overlooking Kasari Bay,
you can see a sharp triangular islet known as “Kasari Bay’s Tachigami Rock.”
It stands silently in the sea.
At sunset, an old man often sits here with a glass of brown sugar shochu,
gazing across the ocean as if speaking with someone beyond the horizon.
Around Amami Oshima, more than a dozen Tachigami rocks are said to stand guard around the island,
almost like spiritual protectors.
On this evening, clouds and wind drifted over the rock while the setting sun illuminated the sea and sky,
creating a quiet and mystical scene unique to Amami.
Here lies the beauty of Japan.
