「長崎と天草地方の潜伏キリシタン関連遺産」の構成資産のひとつとして、世界遺産に登録されている 崎津集落。ゴシック様式の崎津教会を中心とした小さな漁村集落を、約1分30秒の映像に凝縮してみました。
熊本県天草市にある崎津集落。
集落の中心に佇むのは、ゴシック様式の崎津教会です。
漁業を生業とする素朴な漁村の風景の中に、教会が驚くほど自然に溶け込み、この地ならではの静かな美しさを生み出しています。
漁港の出港口にはマリア像が立ち、漁師たちは海へ出る前、そして戻るたびに、船上で必ず祈りを捧げます。信仰が今も日常の営みとして深く結びついていることを、静かに物語る光景です。
集落には「トウヤ」と呼ばれる、家と家の間を縫うように海へと続く細い路地があります。
海のすぐ近くまで山が迫る地形のため、わずかな平地に家々が寄り添うように建ち、独特の集落景観を形づくっています。
海を眺めながらひとり佇んでいると、12月とは思えないほど心地よい風が頬を撫でていきました。路地や庭先では猫たちが日向ぼっこをし、教会にはクリスマスを前にした静かな装飾。
祈りと暮らしが今も変わらず息づく崎津集落には、ゆっくりとした時間が流れていました。

Sakitsu Village, located in Amakusa City, Kumamoto Prefecture,
is one of the components of the UNESCO World Heritage site
Hidden Christian Sites in the Nagasaki Region.
At the heart of this small fishing village stands Sakitsu Church, built in Gothic style.
Surrounded by the quiet scenery of a working fishing community, the church blends seamlessly into everyday life, creating a beauty unique to this place.
At the harbor entrance, a statue of the Virgin Mary watches over the sea.
Before setting out and after returning, fishermen pause to offer prayers on their boats.
It is a quiet reminder that faith here remains deeply woven into daily life.
The village is threaded with narrow paths called Touya—small alleys that run between houses and lead gently toward the sea.
With mountains pressing close to the shoreline, homes gather tightly on the limited flat land, forming a distinctive and intimate village landscape.
Standing alone by the sea, a gentle breeze brushed my face—surprisingly soft for December.
Cats rested in the sunlight along the paths and gardens, while the church stood quietly adorned for the coming Christmas.
In Sakitsu, prayer and daily life continue to exist side by side,
and time seems to flow just a little more slowly.
This film captures that quiet rhythm in approximately 1 minute and 30 seconds.
Here lies the beauty of Japan.
