ここは、富士五湖のひとつ精進湖。午前4時前、まだ闇が残る湖畔に立ち、カメラを構えました。やがて夜の帳がほどけ、辺りがほのかに明るさを帯び始めると、水面から毛嵐がゆらゆらと立ちのぼり、静かに漂いながら湖上を流れていきます。日の出が近づくにつれてその量は増し、湖は淡い霧に包まれ、幻想的な光景が広がりました。やがて太陽が昇ると、漂っていた霞は静かに消え去り、堂々とそびえる富士山と青空と雲、そして精進湖の水面にも富士山が姿を現しました。
This is Lake Shoji-ko, one of the Fuji Five Lakes. Before 4 a.m., I stood on its shore in the lingering darkness with my camera ready. As the veil of night slowly lifted and the surroundings began to glow faintly, wisps of mist—kea-rashi—rose from the water, drifting gently across the lake’s surface. As sunrise drew near, the mist grew thicker, wrapping the lake in a soft haze and creating a dreamlike scene. When the sun finally rose, the drifting veil quietly dissolved, revealing the majestic silhouette of Mount Fuji against the blue sky and clouds, and its reflection appearing on the still surface of Lake Shoji-ko.
