ここは、富士五湖のひとつ本栖湖からの富士山です。この日は夕方になっても雲が途切れることなく山肌を這いながら、次から次へと湧き立っていました。上空は青い空、富士山を隠すほどの大量の白い雲は太平洋からどんどんと海水が蒸発して雲となって流れ込んできているのでしょう。今年は特に海水温が上昇してこのような雲が発生することが多かった様な気がします。世の中は地球温暖化の影響だと叫ばれていますが、ボクには良く分かりません。ただ、現実として明らかに今までとは違うということです。春も秋も短い、夏は長く酷暑続きだし、スコールみたいな雨が全国至る所で降るし、多分、冬は豪雪地帯でもないところも大雪が降るような気がします。地球の歴史から考えると一瞬のことで、今までも繰り返されてきたのかもしれません。生き物はその環境の中で適合するように姿形を変えて生き抜いてきたし、だから、地球温暖化の問題については難しくてよく分かりません。ただ、現実として変わりつつあるということです。今は、その現実を受け入れることしかできませんが、確実に変化するスピードは加速し続けていると言うことです。
Here is Mount Fuji, as seen from Lake Motosu, one of the Fuji Five Lakes. On this day, even by evening, the clouds showed no signs of clearing. They continuously billowed, crawling along the mountain slopes. Above, the sky was blue, while vast amounts of white clouds, enough to obscure Mount Fuji, seemed to flow in, likely formed by evaporating seawater from the Pacific Ocean. This year, I’ve noticed that such clouds seem to form more frequently, possibly due to rising sea temperatures. People attribute these phenomena to the effects of global warming, but I can’t say I fully understand it. However, what’s clear to me is that things are undeniably different now.
Spring and autumn feel shorter, summers are prolonged with relentless heatwaves, torrential rains akin to tropical downpours fall all over the country, and I suspect even non-snowy regions might see heavy snowfalls in winter. In the grand scope of Earth’s history, these changes may just be a fleeting moment, perhaps part of a recurring cycle. Living organisms have adapted and evolved to survive within changing environments. For that reason, the issue of global warming feels complex and difficult to grasp fully.
That said, one thing remains clear: the reality is changing. While all I can do now is accept this reality, the pace of change is undoubtedly accelerating.
